LINCOLNSHIRE VILLAGE SIGNS Books 1 and 2

FRED HAM was one of the first collectors of photographs of village signs and a founder member of the Village Sign Society. Living in King's Lynn, with one foot as it were in Norfolk and the other in Lincolnshire, these were his first areas of sign photography. He gave numerous talks on vilage signs and village folklore to many groups in Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire and further afield. On his death in 2001 he left his vast collection of photographs and slides to the Village Sign Society. Unfortunately, there was little in the way of notes. His vast knowledge seems to have been all in his head, since these talks took up most of his time after retirement. We are proud to publish this first collection of his Lincolnshire signs. Shirley Addy and Maureen Long, authors of the Suffolk Sign books series, have contributed the text.

THE STORY OF VILLAGE AND TOWN SIGNS IN NORFOLK came about through the Village Sign Society, of which John Porter is one of the founder members. The society came about through the publication of the books on Suffolk Village Signs and that came about through the Miller and Proctor Norfolk Sign books. So, in a sense, this book brings all of this full circle! We are thrilled to be able to publish this book because we
and many others, have longed to see it in print ever since the third Norfolk Book was published.
