The Village Sign Society was founded in 1999 by Maureen Long and Shirley Addy, co-producers of the popular series of books on Suffolk village signs, "Suffolk Signs". Through the publication of these books, Maureen and Shirley were contacted by many people fascinated by village signs, and so the idea of forming a society for like-minded people was born.

The Society has now many enthusiastic, active and armchair village sign spotting members, and continues to grow as the interest in village signs expands, particularly shown during the erection of many new signs. Members come from all walks of life, region, age and include village sign makers.

Four issues of the Village Sign Times a year. This highly-popular publication includes contributions of a high standard from members and news on village signs. Members find this publication of practical value when searching for village signs. Past articles have included those from a sign-maker, sign originators and people taking an active role in village signs.
Access to and participation in the Dynamic Database and Photobase, the national archives of all known village signs, both historic and present.
