The Village Sign Society was founded in 1999 by Maureen Long and Shirley Addy, co-producers of the popular series of books on Suffolk village signs, "Suffolk Signs". Through the publication of these books, Maureen and Shirley were contacted by many people fascinated by village signs, and so the idea of forming a society for like-minded people was born.

The Society has now many enthusiastic members from all walks of life, region, age and include village sign makers.

Benefits of membership are:

- Three issues of Village Sign Times a year (one copy for joint membership).

- Access to and participation in the Dynamic Database and Photobase, the national archives of all known village signs, both historic and present.

- Attendance at the Society's get-togethers and meetings.

- All members, including sign makers, are entitled to advertise free in the Society's magazine, Village Sign Times and website.
